GLORY earned the "METI Minister's Prize"

- for "Innovation in Monozukuri" through building the production system using Humanoid Robots -

GLORY LTD. has earned the "METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) Minister's Prize" in the 5th "Monozukuri" Nippon (Japan) Grand Award on September 13, 2013. (Note: The Japanese term "Monozukuri" means "Manufacturing" in English.)

* "Monozukuri Nippon Grand Award" is the award contest which has been organized jointly by the four ministries mentioned below and held every other years since 2005, for the purpose of passing on and enhancing "Monozukuri skills", which have been contributing to the development of the industry and culture of Japan, and to the establishment of the wealthy and bountiful lives of the Japanese people: Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry / Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology / Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare / Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport

Awarded Project

"Innovation in Monozukuri" through building the production system using Humanoid Robots

Outline of the project (as announced by the METI)

Building of a new "high-mix low-volume production system" where human and compact humanoid robots can collaborate in attaining automation ratio of 80%, and also in achieving five (5) times more efficient productivity.
The new system has been built by making operating and controlling scenario through the emulation of the unconscious movement of the human, incorporation of the "Tricky Mechanism" into hands parts and peripheral equipment, and the integration of the results of these processes into the potential of the humanoid robot.

Background of the Award (in appreciation of the following points)

・Extraction of the maximum potential of the humanoid robot by incorporating visual and moving capabilities of the hands into a "high-mix low-volume production process", while devising the hands parts at the same time.

・Success in automating "high-mix low-volume production" in a style like increasing "multi skilled persons", which has been traditionally considered difficult to be realized, while giving the expectation in expanding the applicable area of the new system and in contributing to keeping the present production in Japan.
